Solihull Dining Week
One of the hottest October days on record saw crowds flocking to the first ever Solihull Dining Week which launched on Saturday October 1st and 2nd with a weekend of live music, tasty food and professional demonstrations in a live marquee kitchen in Mell Square.
Salsa classes, bhangra dancers and drummers from Dance Sansaar and the smooth sounds of the Doctors of Jazz accompanied professional chefs from many of the town’s cafes, bars and restaurants as they showcased their skills in cook-off competitions, offered tasty samples to the crowd and passed on hints and tips in everything from Indian spices, the perfect French wines and cheeses and how to throw pizza dough.
The town centre’s cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants were packed as visitors tried out special Dining Week menu offers and children enjoyed a free meal whilst trying to win one of the many competition prizes on offer in their special food passports. Thirteen different restaurants are offering Kids Eat Free throughout the week.
The event is designed to showcase Solihull’s wonderful array of food and drink venues and has been created by Solihull Business Improvement District (BID), an organisation funded by businesses in central Solihull to help improve trading in the town centre through a range of projects including innovative marketing and events. A regional marketing campaign is working hard to encourage as many visitors to the town, during Dining Week, as possible.
Dining Week continues until Sunday 9th October with special menus and offers available in the Dining Week brochure. There are also master classes and live demonstrations in a demonstration kitchen in Touchwood and even a vintage tea dance in Library Square.
