Solihull BID’s Christmas campaign, which set out to lure shoppers away from their current favourite retail destination, to try Solihull’s outstanding shopping and leisure, delivered a sparkling result as competition entries flooded in from across three counties, demonstrating that the message had hit its’ mark.

Lucky Laura Godwin was picked at random from more than 1400 competition entrants, over 50% of which came from outside the borough of Solihull. She has won a £250 Touchwood shopping voucher to spend

The campaign – a specially-designed silver purse – was delivered to homes in selected areas across the West Midlands, Warwickshire and Worcestershire in late November and supported by media advertising in key regional and local publications, distribution in the Mail on Sunday, billboards at The NEC, digital and social media and a radio campaign with Heart FM.

Laura said:  “I am delighted to have won – it’s a great New Year’s treat.  I’m proud to be from Solihull, but even I am surprised by how much the town has to offer. I also shop in Birmingham and Leamington but am really looking forward to having the opportunity to spend my winnings in Solihull in the next few weeks.”

Shirley Sturzaker, Director of Solihull Business Improvement District, added: “This campaign was all about increasing the overall size of Solihull’s customer base by tempting consumers away from other High Streets to explore what Solihull has to offer. I am delighted that shoppers, Like Laura, have responded to the campaign and it’s our job now to make sure as many of the 1.5 million people we targeted visit Solihull during 2012.”

The success of the Christmas campaign comes on the back of a strong performance from Solihull retailers during December with many, including John Lewis, reporting a record year.
