Name: Melanie Palmer

Company: Solihull BID
Position: Director

How can you or your company help Chamber members?

As a not for profit company formed to improve our defined area of Solihull Town Centre this allows us access to in-depth on the ground information from 480 multi sector businesses.

Having this critical information gives added value to the Chamber with research and project evaluation etc.

Why did you want to get involved in Solihull Chamber?

The Chamber plays a critical role both locally and nationally in assisting the economic growth and facilitating a two-way information sharing hub.

I think it is important to support this group as we are only a success when we all work together as a collective.

What do you like about Solihull?

One of Solihull’s unique qualities is that it has the warmth and community feel of a village but its operational and professional input is globally recognised.

The wealth of talent , fresh ideas and vision from a relatively small area is unrivalled.

Where would you like to see improvement in Solihull?

I would like to see the projects that are currently simmering below the surface for the town centre move ahead with more urgency.

I think we need to look at the connectivity and public transport projects that will keep the town centre and people of Solihull connected to HS2 and the interchange.

What has been your favourite networking event?

The Chamber awards.

What was your very first job?

Paper round.

What do you do with your free time?

Walk my dog and write lists.

What’s your favourite food?

Freshly baked bread.

What advice would you give to a business starting out?

Look for advice and support from a professional, know your customer, listen to advice and listen to feedback.

What is your biggest achievement to date?

Leading the Solihull BID team into our successful second term.

Tea or coffee?

Decaf coffee that looks like milk….
