It is with regret that we have had to cancel the visit of the Three Wise Men and their camels to Solihull town centre tomorrow.
As a BID the safety of the public is always our priority. Unfortunately, due to a small number of comments made online that could cause unnecessary alarm and also the risk of extreme weather conditions, we have taken the decision to cancel the camels’ visit. We know this will cause a lot of disappointment and apologise to those people planning on coming into the town centre.
We are aware of some concerns from Solihull residents regarding the welfare of the camels. This is the statement we received from their handlers before they were booked:
“We are committed to the highest standards of welfare. Our camels have a 15-acre field to live in during the day and then they come into their stables at night. They graze on grass during the day with access to fresh water and at night they have hay and a feed to eat. They are washed and groomed regularly and have just had a check-up with the vet who wormed them and gave vitamin boosters. They are very special animals who deserve much respect for their intelligence and lovely natures. We are privileged to have them and be able to share them with so many people who thoroughly enjoy meeting them.”
We know this cancellation could disappoint visitors to the town centre but there is still a wealth of entertainment over the Christmas period, such as Santa’s Grotto in Touchwood until the 24th December, Christmas story-telling tent, Christmas Elf Balloonist, St Alphege Church Choir in Mell Square and Christmas charity gift wrap on the High Street this Saturday.
Please keep an eye on local weather updates before setting off and follow any advice for travelling in bad weather.
